School Category: Elementary
Program Title: Teacher Technology
Training Lab Description: A key
objective for Lee County School District is to have
teachers integrate technology into classroom instruction.
To meet this objective, Lee County has created the
Teacher Technology Training Lab model program. This
program provides training to teachers in a variety
of technology tools, such as scanners, projectors,
digital cameras, Active Boards, and PDAs. The training
allows teachers to integrate acquired technology skills
into classroom instruction, which provides technology-enriched
classes for their students.

Organization: Blythewood Middle
School Category: Middle
Program Title: ITEC the Bridge to
the Future Description: The mission
of ITEC is to enrich the curriculum through the integration
of today’s technology, meeting SC Standards
and Richland District Two Student Technology Benchmarks.
Seamless integration of technology into the curriculum
encourages cooperative learning, peer tutoring, and
differentiated instruction to help meet the needs
of all students. In weaving technology into the Standards,
a variety of methods and resources, such as networked
computer workstations, laptops, Smartboards, and digital
cameras, are used to enhance the learning.

Program Title: Tech Connect Description:
The Tech Connect program improves the teaching and
the learning environments for teachers and students
by two methods. The first method employs an instructional
technology coach located at each participating school.
The function of the technology coach is to provide
professional development and support for teachers,
administrators, and parents. The second method involves
the acquisition of wireless computers in order to
increase the accessibility to technology for the participating
schools. These computers can be easily moved from
classroom to classroom and teachers are encouraged
to use them for lesson development, resource gathering,
and conference usage.

Organization: Marion District Seven
Category: District Program
Title: CREATE Description:
The CREATE (Challenging Rural Educators to Advance
Technology in Education) program was formed to increase
student academic achievement through the use of innovative
computer technology curriculum and instruction. CREATE
focused on the program areas of learners and their
environment, professional capacity, and instructional
capacity to increase academic achievement. Teachers
received professional development to increase their
instructional capacities. New computers workstations
were installed in each school, resulting in at least
one workstation per classroom. Technology integration
in classroom curriculum allowed classes located in
geographically isolated and poor school districts
to tear down isolation walls through online activities.

Organization: Pickens County

Title: PALM TREES Project Description:
The PALM TREES Project (Palms Advancing Learning that
is Meaningful through Technology for Real-World Engagement
and Enhancement of Standards) is a district-wide approach
to integrating handheld computers into classroom instruction.
As part of the project, four hundred Palm computers
were distributed to twenty pairs of teachers throughout
the district. Each teacher received training and on-going
encouragement to design innovative lesson plans in
all core subject areas using the Palm computers. The
project not only involves students using technology
to improve their skills in analytical thinking and
collaborative problem-solving, but also has now engaged
hundreds of school staff throughout the district in
using handheld computers for a variety of purposes.

Title: Mobile Inquiry Learning Center
Description: The Mobile Inquiry Learning
Lab was envisioned to provide Richland School District
One students with hands-on activities that allow them
to become scientifically and technologically literate.
The Mobile Center is a forty-five foot Winnebago-style
vehicle that is equipped with fifteen Dell laptops,
Internet access, televisions, and videocassette recorders.
Providing students with access to technology gives
them an edge in learning. Access to the Mobile Center
enables students to use high quality equipment to
innovatively complete classroom assignments or projects.

Spartanburg District Three
Category: District
Program Title: Web-based Learning
Model and MAP
Description: Spartanburg School
District Three has implemented a technology initiative
that supports the South Carolina Achievement Standards.
This instructional focus has resulted in the development
of several innovative programs. Schools are implementing
MAP, a computerized adaptive test that within twenty-four
hours of taking it provides predictive PACT scores
to teachers. Other programs include Thinking Maps,
Accelerated Learning, Cognitive Tutor, and Phonic
Ears, all computer-based methods utilized to assist
and focus student learning. The district also has
developed a Web-Based Learning Model that emphasizes
the interrelatedness and interconnectedness of learning
as the computer-training model to aid teachers in
technology proficiency.
