School Cyberlaw: Student Speech, Safety, and Supervision

When can you discipline students for content on their personal web pages? What are the requirements and limits of monitoring student electronic communications and files? How should you deal with cell phones and other personal electronic devices? How do you limit and respond to Cyberbullying? These and other questions along with practical tips for dealing with supervising and securing students in the Internet age will be addressed in this two-hour session.
This session will be led by David Hostetler, founder and director of Lex-IS Services, an education law and training firm for school leaders. Mr. Hostetler will also lead a subsequent 1-hour session addressing acceptable use policies.

Total Traffic Control User Group Meeting

Over half of the 82 school districts in South Carolina now use Total Traffic Control for Content Filtering, SPAM Blocking, Anti-Virus, Forensic Reporting, Bandwidth Management, Spyware and E-mail Archiving. If you are a user of this software you automatically qualify for membership in the TTC User Group. Personnel from other school districts are invited to participate in the meeting to learn how this software is being deployed in South Carolina. Everyone should benefit from the discussion on how we are using the TTC software. There will be representatives from the developer on hand as well as other users to answer any questions we have and to hear what we want in terms of future features and capabilities of the software. We will discuss the new Unix platform – TTC+ and how it will benefit us as we grow our networks.
