S.C. EdTech celebrates it's tenth year anniversary in 2007! It was in 1997 that EdTech was formed from multiple smaller technology conferences in the state being merged. Prior to that time, education professionals participated in one or more separate conferences throughout the year. Some of these gatherings were dedicated to specific groups of users such as the Pathways conference which focused on K-12 administrative technology. Others focused on distance education, instructional education, and other special interests.
Today, SC EdTech offers content and activities that span all areas of educational technology with diverse workshops, presentations, speakers, exhibitors, and recognition events. Until 2002, S.C. EdTech was hosted and managed by the South Carolina Department of Education in partnership with business and industry. Today, the conference is managed by the South Carolina Association for Educational Technology (SCAET), a 501c3 non-profit organization.
In its brief ten years, EdTech has grown substantially. From less than a dozen workshops and presentations and ten exhibit booths, the conference now realized over 130 professional development activities and over 180 exhibits in 2006!
